Who is this service for
We see young people between the ages of 16 and 30, who have a personal or emotional problem. This might include problems in relationships with family, friends or partners, or there may be difficulties at school, college or work.
What we offer
We offer four meetings of 50 minutes each. Sometimes the feelings that bother us are those we cannot discuss with people close to us, like friends or relatives. During sessions many people are helped to discuss emotions and thoughts that they may not have let themselves open up about before. This can sometimes be upsetting, but it can also bring a sense of relief and more understanding of the problems, which can then provide a way forward. In a session, ideas about how to go about getting further help may also be discussed if appropriate.
How to access this service
This service is self-referral only. To arrange an appointment please call the administrator on 020 8938 2337 (between 10am and 5.30pm, Monday - Thursday).
During the call you will be asked for some personal information including your GP’s name and address. This is for NHS funding reasons only. The service is confidential: we do not need to contact your GP and we would not do so without asking your permission.
Sessions in the YPCS are held between 9am and 5pm (occasionally a little earlier or later) from Monday to Friday. If we are very busy it may be necessary to put your name on a waiting list, but we will do our best to arrange an appointment for you as soon as possible.
You will also be asked why you are looking for counselling - this is just so that we can make sure we offer the right service for you.
Young Black People's Consultation Service
We also offer a specialist service for young people aged 14-30 years from black and minority ethnic backgrounds who would like to be treated by a therapist who is from a similar background. Parents and carers of young black and minority aged 14-25 years can also receive treatment.
To arrange an appointment please call the administrator on 020 8938 2337 (between 10am and 5.30pm, Monday - Thursday).
