The Psychological Therapies Development Unit
The Psychological Therapies Development Unit was founded in October 2010 and is run by Professor Alessandra Lemma (alemma@tavi-port.nhs.uk) and her assistant Phillip Birch (pbirch@tavi-port.nhs.uk). Its role is to encourage and facilitate the development of psychological interventions within the NHS, such as Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), whilst maintaining strong links between the Trust and other research establishments, primarily the Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at University College London and the School of Health and Social Sciences at Essex University so as to contribute to the evidence base for psychological therapies. Currently Professor Lemma is directing the roll-out of DIT training in the UK with funding from IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies), with the aim that this form of short-term psychological intervention will be widely available to patients suffering from depression.
