Strategy for the future

The NHS is becoming an increasingly competitive environment. We are well-positioned to sustain and improve our high-quality services: we have a skilled and committed workforce, strong decision-making structures and a solid business plan.

What is the government focusing on?

The Department of Health wants to improve the quality, effectiveness and safety of care. This means looking at the patient's entire experience of the NHS, from referral to after-care, and ensuring that patients are treated with dignity and respect in a clean, safe and well-managed environment.

What are we focusing on?

We agree with this, and are working towards improving quality throughout our services. We also aim to expand our services in all areas, and build on our existing strengths, including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, forensic psychotherapy and work with looked-after children.

As a major training provider we aim to build on our portfolio of internationally-recognised postgraduate courses, continuing professional development programmes and professional qualifying courses.

We will continue to support our activities in research and innovation, and to promote consultancy work delivered through our clinical departments and the Tavistock Consultancy Service.

We are keen to develop our public accountability through the Board of Governors and membership,  and promote a more active membership and a greater dialogue between governors and members. We also plan to develop patient and public involvement through local and national initiatives.

As an organisation we will continue to build relationships with other NHS trusts, local authorities, universities and voluntary groups.
