Specialty Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ST4-6) (ref. M2)
This programme provides training for doctors who want to become Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. It offers the full range of requried experience and excellent opportunities in psychodynamic psychotherapy and systemic family therapy.
Who is the course for?
Doctors who have completed core training in psychiatry and wish to specialise in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Royal College of Psychiatrists membership is required - for EU candidates, a comparable higher qualification in psychiatry.
Personal suitability for the work is emphasised.
Opportunities occasionally exist for psychiatrists from overseas to train in aspects of child and adolescent psychiatry (see courses M3 and M14). Such applicants will need to plan carefully how to meet the fees payable by overseas doctors.
Based at the Tavistock Centre, the course covers work in a variety of hospitals and community settings in North London.
Optional elements of training include components of the following programmes, or the full programme if appropriate: Adolescent Psychiatry (M3), Systemic Psychotherapy (D4 or M6) and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists (M14).
This course is recognised by the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board.
