The following candidates were elected to the Board in the November 2009 elections.

Public Governors

Camden

Ms Jennie Bird

Jennie Bird was elected as a Camden Governor in November 2006, and re-elected in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Ms Bird is Head Teacher of Harry Gosling Primary School in Whitechapel, and prior to this was Deputy Head Teacher at Beckford Primary School in West Hampstead. Ms Bird has been a class teacher in London since 1988.

 

Ms Mary Burd

Mary Burd was elected as a Camden Governor in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Ms Burd has worked in the NHS for over 30 years in East London. Ms Burd has worked as a clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist and has always been interested in the Trust’s work. Ms Burd has lived in Camden for over 40 years.

“ I have lived in Camden for over 40 years and becoming a public governor for this area enables me to use my knowledge of local services and the needs of the population in the interests of the Trust and those it serves. I believe it is important to find ways of relating to the community I represent, and will be working out ways with other Governors about how to do this more effectively.”

 

Mr Adam Elliott

Adam Elliott was elected as a Camden Governor in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012. Mr Elliott is a qualified barrister, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and is an Assistant Registrar working on Fitness to Practice.

“I have been aware of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust all my life, in both a personal and professional capacity and have cared for family members who have been, at times, unwell. I believe strongly in ensuring that the best possible support is provided to everyone who needs it, and also ensuring that everyone who has voice is able to make that voice heard.”

 

Rest of London

Dr Robin Anderson

Robin Anderson was elected as a Rest of London Governor in November 2006, and re-elected in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012. Dr Anderson trained as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and as a Consultant Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

“I am a passionate believer in the NHS and its objectives and I have worked in it all my professional life. Serving as a Governor for a second term will enable me to help guide the trust and help it cope with the very real pressures it will be facing in this tough post-credit crunch world.”

 

Ms Stephanie Cooper - Lead Governor

Stephanie Cooper was elected as a Rest of London Governor in December 2006, and re-elected in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Ms Cooper is the Trust ’s Lead Governor. Ms Cooper is a lawyer with an interest in welfare and social security law, medical law and medical ethics. She is a member of the NHS Research Ethics Committee, a member of the Parole Board of England and Wales, and a Non-Executive Director of an NHS hospital trust.

“I feel it is important to understand how the Trust is relating to its members and how this relationship can be developed. I hope to help develop strategy to enhance the range of services offered to patients and the public and to help develop improved lines of communication between management and members. ”

 

Dr Sara Godfrey

Sara Godfrey was elected as a Rest of London Governor in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Dr Godfrey is a civil servant and currently works for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Dr Godfrey was a Research Fellow at University College London. Dr Caroline Lindsey Photo Caroline Lindsey was elected as a Rest of London Governor in November 2006, and was re-elected in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Dr Lindsey worked as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Family Therapist at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust for many years.

“I am passionately committed to the importance of providing high quality mental health services including a range of therapies for children, young people, adults and families. ” Ms Carole Stone Photo Carole Stone was elected as a Rest of London Governor in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Ms Stone has had a long-standing interest in mental health since her brother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and is a Patron of SANE and Triumph Over Phobia UK. “I think establishing connections is a really important area of life that needs as much work put into it as possible. I think we should try to find out more from patients, when their therapy is done, about their experience of the Trust, and how they feel they were treated.”

 

Mr John Wilkes

John Wilkes was elected as a Rest of London Governor in November 2006, and was re-elected in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012. Mr Wilkes worked as a civil servant for nearly 30 years, and studied at the Trust in 1997. Following completion of his MA, he set up his own coaching and consultancy company consulting to senior managers in the public sector. Mr Wilkes is Co-Chair and Trustee for the Association for Management Education and Development and Trustee of Bridge 86, a mental health charity. Mr Wilkes has suffered from clinical depression all of his adult life.

“I am hoping to develop the way Governors work together and with Trust, ensuring that members’ views are sought and integrated into the planning and development of the Trust’s future, supporting the Trust Chair, Chief Executive and the Board in their endeavours to make this happen.”

 

Rest of England & Wales

Ms Chrissie Kimmons

Chrissie Kimmons was elected as a Rest of England and Wales Governor in November 2006, and re-elected in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012.

 

Ms Jan McHugh

Jan McHugh was elected as a Rest of England and Wales Governor in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Ms McHugh trained at the Trust in the 1980s and has 23 years’ experience of psychodynamic consulting to over 300 health, public service, charitable, and business organisations.

“Becoming a Governor provides a means of extending my appreciation of the Tavi, whilst hoping to make a contribution to its development and robust survival within a taxing socio-economic context. I hope to prove a good critical friend: unflinching in challenge as well as support, where I am able.”

 

Staff Governors

Administrative & Technical  - Mrs Amanda Hawke

Amanda Hawke was elected as the Administrative and Technical Governor in November 2006, and re-elected in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012.

 

 

Clinical, Academic, Senior  - Mr Jonathan Bradley 

Jonathan Bradley was elected as the Clinical, Academic, Senior Governor in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012.

 

Representatives of Recognised Staff Organisations and Trade Unions - Mr Robin Bonner

Robin Bonner was elected as the Representatives of Recognised Staff Organisations and Trade Unions Governor in November 2006, and re-elected in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012.

 

Stakeholder Governors

Primary Care Trusts - Mr John Carrier

John Carrier was appointed as the Primary Care Trusts Stakeholder Governor in November 2006, and re-appointed in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012. Mr Carrier is the Chairman of Camden Primary Care Trust, one of the Trust’s main commissioners. Mr Carrier was been involved in local health services since 1971 and was previously Chair of the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust.

 

Local Authorities

Non-Statutory Sector  - Cllr Pat Callaghan

 

Ms Simone Hensby

Simone Hensby was appointed as the Non-Statutory Sector Stakeholder Governor in November 2006, and re-appointed in November 2009. Her term of office ends in October 2012. Ms Hensby is a Director at Voluntary Action Camden.

 

University Partners

Dr Aulay Mackenzie

Aulay Mackenzie was appointed as a University Partner Stakeholder Governor in November 2006, and re-appointed in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012. Dr Mackenzie is the Dean of Academic Partnerships at the University of Essex.

 

Prof. Steve Trevillion

Steve Trevillion was appointed as a University Partner Stakeholder Governor in November 2009. His term of office ends in October 2012. Prof. Trevillion is Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of East London, which works closely with the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a range of education and training programmes.

“My own academic and professional background in social work has led me to have a keen interest in the development of child, adolescent and adult mental health services and the education of the next generation of professionals. ”
