New models of working that benefit pupils, families and teachers
We are working in primary and secondary schools in areas of long-term deprivation and disadvantage. We offer services that have been shown to improve outcomes for children, families and teaching staff. These services involve working directly with teachers, as well as working with individual children, their families and whole class groups.
Work with teachers
Our work with teachers helps them to understand the underlying meaning of pupil behaviour, to be able to identify more easily children who are considered to be at risk, and to feel more confident about pupils they are concerned about. This intervention has shown a number of improved outcomes, for both pupils and teachers, including:
- a reduction in school exclusions
- 97% of teachers were helped to persevere with challenging pupils when they felt like giving up
- 83% of teachers reported feeling less stressed after talking about these pupils/groups
- a significantly lower rate of sickness absence amongst teachers.
Work with children and families
We work with children with severe emotional difficulties. These are the children who behave in ways that are extremely upsetting and hard to manage for themselves, their families and their schools. Outcomes of the work have shown:
- improvements in angry feelings and worries in this group and an improvement in their ability to concentrate in class
- reductions in these children getting into fights with other children and getting into trouble at school
