Who is this service for?
MedNet provides doctors and dentists who are working in the area covered by the London and KSS (Kent, Surrey and Sussex) Deaneries with practical advice about their career, emotional support and, where appropriate, access to brief or longer term psychotherapy. It operates on the basis of strict confidentiality.
What treatment is offered?
Any doctor making contact will be offered a consultation and a short series of sessions. This may be sufficient in itself to deal with the problem or a discussion will take place about what further action would be appropriate.
Recommendations will be tailored to the individual problems taking into account the wishes of the client. This might include a referral; subject to capacity, when low-frequency psychodynamic psychotherapy might be offered by clinical staff of MedNet themselves.
The clinical work of MedNet at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust is undertaken by consultant psychiatrists in psychotherapy: Dr Antony Garelick (Associate Dean), Dr Matthias von der Tann, Dr Elizabeth Gibb and Dr Niloufar Harris. The clinical work of MedNet in south London at the Maudsley Hospital is undertaken by Dr Julia Bland and Dr Emma Janes.
How to refer to this service?
This is a self-referral service, and any doctor making contact will be offered a series of consultations.
The service of MedNet is free of charge to the patient. As MedNet is extensively audited, every patient is expected to participate in this process by filling out questionnaires at different times in the process.
