How we are leading the way in multi-agency working

Our multi-agency liaison team (MALT) works closely with safeguarding and family services to support children facing complex problems within the family. They are nationally recognised as a best-practice example of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working. The National Health Service and the local authority jointly fund this service.

The service is for children, young people and families considered to be particularly vulnerable by the Local Authority. The service is based in a community setting in Camden, London.

The core task of the team is to assess the emotional well-being of children and to deliver specialist programmes of mental health work to families and children. This work might begin when children are subject to a Child Protection Plan, and if necessary continue during and after Care Proceedings, whatever the outcome.

In normal circumstances few of these children and young people access mental health services, particularly when care proceedings are underway.
