Professor Andrew Cooper, our leading expert on social care, appeared live on the show to discuss the wider implications of the death of Baby P and whether the social workers and wider team involved are to blame or whether there is a deeper problem within the social work system. Andrew appeared on a panel to debate the issue at length. Andrew gave passionate comment on the need to give staff working with at risk children more support and added that there were fundamental failings in the social work system as a whole and that scapegoating and demonising individual staff was not helpful for anyone.
