What is a governor?

As a foundation trust we have a membership made up of patients and their families, students, staff and local communities. Our members nominate and elect a number of governors to represent their views.

Our governors are split into three categories: public, staff and stakeholder:

Public governors can be patients, students, local residents or any resident of England or Wales who is interested in our work. This is important as it means the voice of the communities we serve can be heard right at the top of the decision-making process.

Staff governors make sure all our staff have a say in how we run our services.

Stakeholder governors are appointed by various organisations we work with to ensure that we maintain good relationships with all our partners.

What do they do?

Governors have an important role to play. The have two main responsibilities: holding the Board of Directors to account for the running of the trust, and representing members.

Our governors are the guardians of our mission and values, and help us achieve our objectives. The establishment of the Board of Governors has given us an opportunity to engage with the communities we serve, and for these communities to help bring about real change.
